Having a Checkout Points Input Field Redemption Component provides your loyal customers with an effortless way to redeem a specific amount of their reward points during checkout. This feature empowers customers to control how their points are applied to their purchases, enhancing their shopping experience and driving more conversions for your business.

In this article, we will provide you with a step-by-step instructions to set up and customize the extension, delivering a seamless checkout experience while enhancing customer satisfaction and fostering loyalty.


Setup Requirements

  1. Shopify Plus

    This feature is exclusively available to merchants on the Shopify Plus plan.

  2. Updated Shopify Theme

    Your theme must support app blocks to enable this extension. Without this, the Gameball block will not appear in the editor. Learn More.

  3. Enable Gameball Embed Block

    1. Open the Shopify Theme Editor.

    2. Navigate to App Embeds in the left menu.

    3. Search for "Gameball" and toggle it on.

  4. Activate Gameball Program:

    In the Gameball dashboard, make sure the toggle at the top-right is activated. Once this is enabled, you’ll be able to add the Gameball block.

  5. Activate Points Redemption Program

    1. Open Gameball's Dashboard.

    2. Go to Loyalty Points > Earn.

    3. Activate the program by toggling it to Active.

  6. Activate "Dynamic Redemption Option":

    1. Open Gameball's Dashboard.

    2. Go to Loyalty Points > Redeem.

    3. Activate the Dynamic Redemption Options by toggling it to Active.


Installing the Points Redemption Checkout Block

  1. In Gameball's Dashboard, click Customize under the embedded block card.

  2. You’ll be redirected to Shopify’s Theme Editor.

  3. Log in to your store through the Theme Editor.

  4. Under Order Summary in the left sidebar, select Add section > Apps, and search for "Checkout redeem input field"

  5. Select the app block and click Save.


Customizing the Checkout Redeem Input Field Block

  1. Style Customization

    The checkout extensions have no style customization options. However, you can customize its position by simply dragging and dropping it to your desired location on the checkout page.

    Content & Translation

    To customize the content and translation:

    1. Go to Gameball Dashboard.

    2. Navigate to Widget > Content.

    3. In the Embedded Block tab, edit the text as needed.

    4. Click Save.


How it Works

Guest Customers

  • If not logged in, customers will see a login prompt to access their balance.

  • Once identified (email entered), the block updates to the logged-in version.

Logged-In Customers

  • The block displays the total available points as a default in the input field.

  • Customers can enter the desired amount to redeem.

  • After adding the points the customers clicks on "Redeem", and Gameball will deducts points from the customer's balance and automatically generates a discount code, which is then applied to the order.


Important Notes

The block will automatically hide if:

  • The loyalty program is deactivated.

  • The redemption module is disabled.

  • The "dynamic redemption option" is deactivated.

  • The customer is excluded from the rewards program.

  • Your account is on an unsupported plan.

Frequently Asked Questions

  1. What happens if the coupon can't be applied?

    If the coupon fails due to advanced options (e.g., order value or collection-specific rules), points remain redeemed, but the discount is not applied. Customers will see a clear error message.

  2. Can I use this extension with legacy plans?

    No, this extension is only available for Shopify Plus customers on the latest plans.

  3. What if I encounter an error during setup?
